Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty - What is it
'Labiaplasty' is the operation addressing hypertrophy of the external female genitalia. The operation is recommended both for functional and aesthetic reasons.
Finally, modern lifestyle quite often requires a light dressing, which can embarrass women with hypertrophic labiae. All these reasons justify conducting a vaginoplasty.
Indications
Hypertrophy is sometimes responsible for:
- pain and a ‘burning’ sensation after intercourse, due to excessive friction during the contact
- reduced sensation, and therefore lack of satisfaction
- psychological impact on both the woman and her partner
Technique
The operation is done either under local or general anesthesia, depending on the case. It consists of excision of the hypertrophic tissues and suturing of the labia in a way that respects and does not affect the sensation of the vulva.
Advantages
Postoperative recovery is usually quick and smooth. The patient may resume her daily activities after one week and returns to sexual activities after 4 weeks.
